How awards actually get won
Winning them is half the job. The other half is studying why work wins, then building the next thing to win on purpose.
What it takes to win in pharma
Pharma spends around $18 billion a year on US advertising, and the awards circuit that follows the money (MM+M, the Webbys, the CLIO Health Awards) is a crowded room. So I audited that year's winners with one question in mind: what would it take for interactive ad formats to win there?
The winners shared two habits. They made people feel the condition, with experiential creative that teaches by putting you inside it. And they pointed past the ad to something the brand was doing in the real world, like funding research or supporting patients.
Then I mapped each winning idea to a format we could actually build: a reaction game, a multi-video story, a guided content collection. My recommendation was to get the creative team in at the concept stage, use the full toolkit (rich media for symptom awareness, geolocation to route people to testing, in-stadium moments for scale, brand-lift studies to prove public-health impact), and run a standing innovation program that prototypes new interactivity every quarter. Pharma first, then any vertical worth winning in.
